After reading The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, I
realized that I was not aware of my thoughts. When I became conscious of my
thoughts, I was shocked to realize that many of my thoughts were self-critical and
disapproving.
I unknowingly criticized and called myself derogatory names on a daily basis! Whenever I dropped
something, felt frustrated or could not live up to some kind of unrealistic
expectation, I would call myself names that became part of my “normal thoughts”.
I’m an idiot! I’m a moron! I’m such a jerk! I’m a nitwit! I’m out of it! I’m so stupid! I’m so dumb! I’m such a klutz! I hate myself! What is my problem? became daily self-abusive thoughts for many years!

I also criticized myself every time I looked in the mirror.
I hate my hair! I hate my eyebrows! I wish my thighs were thinner! I wish my legs were longer! I wish I had bigger breasts! I wish I was thinner! I wish I had perfect skin! etc, were just some of the negative patterns spinning inside my head.

Ever since I was a teenager, these self-inflicting words
were part of my “normal” thought process. As a matter of fact, the words, ”I’m
out of it” became almost like a mantra. I said it all the time! Could this have been a self-fulfilling
prophecy?
In my 30’s, I became sick with chronic Lyme (MSIDS - Multi-Systemic Infectious Disease Syndrome). One of my worst symptoms was brain fog, which consisted of overwhelming mental fatigue, loss of concentration and memory. I had indeed become “out of it”… for almost 13 years. Could years of seeing myself in a negative light affect me physically? Could negative thoughts lead to sickness and ultimately, disease?

It’s no coincidence that as I uncovered and released
negative emotions, I began to truly heal from chronic Lyme. And I have Dr.
Gurevich to thank for helping me to recognize how positive and negative
thoughts can affect not only me but all of us.
Dr. Masaru Emoto’s
well publicized experiments with water, demonstrate the power of thought. He
exposed different thoughts, as well as music, to water before freezing it. If
negative thoughts like, “I hate you”, were projected onto the water, the
crystals that formed were fragmented.
But when the water was exposed to prayer, soothing music and positive
thoughts, the ice crystals were beautifully formed and breathtaking!
Watch this video and see for yourself!
Dr. Gurevich introduced me to the concept of blessings, prayer and positive affirmations to replace negative thought patterns. This version of the ancient Hawaiian prayer, Ho’oponopono, was crucial in bringing me toward a more positive and healthier state of mind. This prayer was given to me by Dr. Gurevich…
And now when I look in the mirror, I happily
exclaim, I LOVE YOU!, I AM WONDERFUL! I FEEL GREAT! I AM BLESSED! I FEEL
BEAUTIFUL! Saying these affirmations
make me feel good! But truly believing
these words are still a struggle. It is not easy changing a thought pattern that has
been with you most of your life.

Ho’oponopono
(Prayer
used by Hawaiian healer, Morna Simeona)
Divine Creator
Father, Mother, Son as one…
If I, my family, my relatives or ancestors have
offended
You, your family, your relatives and ancestors
In thought, word, deed or actions,
From the beginning of creation to the present
We ask your forgiveness…
Let this cleanse, purify, release,
Cut all the negative memories,
Blocks, energies and vibrations,
And transmute these unwanted energies to LIGHT…
It is done.
I LOVE YOU.
I’M SORRY.
PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
THANK YOU.
As I began to observe my thoughts, I realized that many of
my negative thoughts would pop up when I was doing chores around the house. So
I would keep a copy of this prayer in my pocket and pull it out and recite it
over and over again, until I felt calm and peaceful.
Reciting and repeating the shorter version of the prayer,
I LOVE YOU. I’M SORRY. PLEASE FORGIVE ME. and THANK YOU., was also a powerful healing mantra for me.

Correcting unhealthy negative thought patterns is a daily
process. And if you haven’t guessed by now,
it takes a lot of work and patience! I no longer call myself harmful
names. Instead, when I feel stressed or
frustrated, I say this healing mantra:
“I’M DOING THE BEST I CAN. ALL IS WELL.”
I also think of all the things that I’m thankful for. I say:
"I LOVE YOU. I’M SORRY. PLEASE FORGIVE ME. and THANK YOU". – over and over again. I take a big deep breath and within seconds, I’m at peace and actually feel that “ALL IS WELL!”

But with practice and determination, it can be done. Anyone
can do this. When you change your thoughts in a positive direction, your life
will change, too.
Our thoughts and emotions are very powerful. We can uplift
ourselves with the positive emotions of love, gratitude, forgiveness and
compassion. And we can overcome the negative thoughts that we inflict on
ourselves. But first we need to search our past and find the root cause of our
negativity. We weren’t born this way. I know I wasn’t!
I believed I had a happy childhood. But as I got older, things started
to change. So what happened to me? How did I get so negative? How did I become
so self-critical? When did my thoughts start becoming… my own worst enemy?
To be cont…
